“My grandfather was a cherry tree”
 by Angela Nanetti
The story tells of a child, Tonino, who speaks of his life in previous years. He tells about having 4 grandparents, two in the city and two in the countryside. Those who live in the city are named Louis and Antoinette and look like all people of the city ;they have a dog named Floppy to which are very affectionate, perhaps more than his nephew.Tthose who live in the country called Octavian and Teolinda have a goose, Alfonsina and don’t look like to anyone. The Grandpa Octavian is fun, a bit 'crazy, but inclusive and devotes all his time to his nephew Tonino and transmits a great love for nature through the care of the cherry. "Heard a bird, go up without fear, Felice is your friend ... "said the grandfather, when he taught him to climb. It happened that one day, however, the grandmother fell ill and died of heart illness.

We have a common proverb that says:” The good is woman, and the devil is woman”! until a year ago I had been a complete opponent to this unjust proverb. I was seeing my mother and my sisters around me, and they were so beautiful and kind and sweet hearted. May be I was not interested to discover how much that proverb was true. Despite all the movies I saw and the novels I read about their ability to turn to real devils, I kept up believing that all women’s mistakes and bad deeds are the result of the hard society they lived in. I was an adherent to the obligation theory which claims that Man don’t commit mistakes and crimes willingly but because of nature, society and the forcing surrounding circumstances. Actually, it is true, women cannot drive their lives away from the elements of the Naturalism theory. Yet, gradually, my thoughts are getting to change quietly after some bad experiences of my own. It is not the right time to narrate my bad experience, but i would briefly write how real that women can be so evil and bad. I was seeing a two-part Turkish drama entitled “ Harim El- Sultan”, which is in English “ Castle’s women of the king. The story started when a breathtaking Russian slave came to the castle to be the love of Sultan then his legal wife! Jealousy between his x-wife and the new one pushes the situation to a hidden war of between the two. More women inside the castle were involved in the plot, and the struggle cycle got larger. Such a story can show the worst side of women. A wife who is ready to kill to keep her husband, and another one struggling to seduce him. An eternal war over the heart of a man. After some episodes, another European princess intervened aiming at taking stealing the Sultan’s heart, unfortunately, she was not smarter enough to survive.. and soon she was killed by the Russian! Revenge, jealousy, insincerity, hypocrisy … and other evil characteristics were the main diseases in the castle. Fire was easily seen in the eyes of the women. Hatred was cycling inside their bodies instead of blood. Killing the rival woman by poison or any other way became an easy thing like drinking juice! Seeping with one eye… fearing from beingattacked anytime … full alert and other retaliation turned the paradise of the castle to a real hell!!! All this was due to the heart and minds of women which can reach the most extreme immoral levels that the human soul may reach. So, personally… I can say that I discovered that women can cause a real destructions to someone’s life if he stands in their way! A wife can cheat her husband for a silly thing. A girl can lie for a long time without feeling any shame to tell the truth jus for the sake of her own interests! A mother in law can urge her son to divorce his wife because of jealousy! A

secretary can seduce her boss to gain a promotion or a raise in salary instead of working hard. In addition to a lot of trick and hell plans that Satan himself would disable to plot such. To justify myself, I am neither an anti-feminist nor a disappointed man with a complex. I still can think critically without harming any part. but the truth is clearer than to be hidden. I am not pretending that all women are bad, I am just clarifying the degree of evil a woman can be on!

It is 01:54 pm. The weather is so rainy in this dark night. It is surly the beginning of the Fall. As usual, I wanted to sleep my night above the roof, and I went upstairs and laid in my bed. dark clouds covered the sky. It started thundering and lighting.

Thundering and lighting were shaping terrific scenes for the angry nature. I did not sleep, I knew that my night won’t as the previous nights. Those phenomenon can show the infinite ability of Almighty and his endless powers. When the first drops of rain touched my face I recognized that it is time to hold myself and my bed and go downstairs to sleep in the room! Now, I am typing those words and thinking if the last night would be my last one on the roof for this year, or I shall sleep again, if the heat would oblige me to do so. All right, It is raining now, the voice of rain is better than any music! So I am not listening to any music orputting any headphones as I used to do when I am typing! It is a wonderful feeling when you are safe inside your house from the rage of nature! Hhh, I know that it is too late and am so tired….mmmmmm so, I will wish myself sweet dreams, bye.

It is Friday, a blessed day for the Muslims. The Friday prayers are the most common Islamic ritual in this day. Also, it is the official weekend in most Islamic countries. In Algeria, both Saturday and Friday are official weekend! The government thought that the Algerians are hard workers hh so it added Saturday as a holiday too!!
I was seating in the living room watching the Friday prayers via an entertaining Saudi channel. Two hours is the difference in time between the two countries. Imam of the Mecca Mosque was performing the Friday address to the crowds of Muslims. The Imam was talking about the ethics of neighborhood! It is ok to tackle this issue in a humble Mosque like the one in my isolated village, or even the ones in the Algerian capital! But a great mosque like the one in Mecca, I believe that the topics the Imam must discuss must be larger and mustconcern modern and contemporary issues. I mean, Palestine is under the Israeli colonization since 1948. Egypt is facing a dangerous crisis and a looming civil war. Syria is about to be rained by NATO missiles and most developed arms. Meanwhile all this, Mr. Imam is talking about neighborhood, as if the Muslims there are not concerned with what’s happening around them in those brother nations!!! Of course a lot of mosques around the world would discuss such type of topics like the one was discussed in Mecca! No problem, because those mosques are not the heart of the Islamic world. They are not the place where millions of pilgrims from around the world head yearly. In Mecca, people who are doing the prayers or “Omra” or “Pilgrimage” are a mixture of simple and common persons, but among them there are many people who are running cartels and controlling the world trade. There are also, people who leading armies, people who are directing huge media webs and groups. Among the Harem Mosque there are politicians from all Islamic countries who can make, change or stop the political decisions…etc.
I see, addresses in the Mecca mosque must tackle more sophisticated issues that concerns the Islamic word as whole, as one block, as one nation against any harmful dangerous assaults. I believe that Mecca is the source of the decision that all Muslims would certainly agree upon
one day.

Day three:
Nothing is attracting the world views more than the crisis in Egypt. Channels are broadcasting pictures and videos for military forces attacking the protesters of Rabaa- Eladawia square. The protesters are supporters of the impeached president Dr. Mohammed Moursi.  The crisis emerged after a military coup led by major general El-sissi against the Muslim Brotherhood candidate and majority winner Dr. Moursi. People are dying and being  tortured in streets and security jails. After like a month and half the army decided to stop the protest using power after the failure of peaceful arrangements. In my opinion, neither of the two parts is going to get advantage from confrontation. Whom we can blame for this massacre happening in the right of innocent victims?!

In 25th January, 2011, Egypt was the second station to what is known now as the Arabian Spring; a large revolutionary movement against governing regimes. After thirty years of silence and submission, citizens migrated in millions to the Liberation Square in Cairo and other central places in most provinces to demand the regime change. Mr. president Moubarek and his gang wanted to reach some compromises to keep on power. Yet, the public will was stronger than any other rival part. The regime that was settled by the army, had been removed by the army. The transitional period was so critical, because symbols of the vanished regime wanted to infiltrate again to the political arena to be decision makers. All Egyptian institutions were awake and careful to stop such counter- revolution. Some banned movements and opposing parties went back to race for authority

Day two:
Still the summer and still the heat. Each time I mention the weather because it has a great

influence on my moral situation. I love winter, I adore the cold weather, I like walking under rain and getting wet. Am so active and vital in the cold weather. I hate the summer sandstorms and the hot winds that come from the desertified south. They block me. If I had the chance to choose a place to live in, I would choose Siberia ha-ha or the Northern Pole. Unusually, this year’s summer was the coldest and the coolest I have witnessed. Fresh winds did not stop coming from the coastal area. Our region witnesses the four seasons each year regularly. My best moments are when I am sleeping under thick blankets on a winter night and the wind is blowing hardly and shaking the trees outside in the darkness !! It gives me a feeling of safety! One day I will visit Siberia, I will spent a night in a shelter, I will enlighten only candles or chimney and lay in comfortable sofa reading a romantic novel and listening to the anger snowstorm hitting the silent mountains.
There would be no subjectivity if I described myself. Of course, I would represent myself as an American hero who saves the world from a nuclear bomb or a hijacked plane at the last seconds; otherwise, I would introduce myself as a Bollywood protagonist who intervened to steal his real love from a managed wedding and take her to live in peaceful rosy life !! actually I am neither this nor that. I am not a big fan of heroism, and I don’t believe the existence of an idealistic man who seeks the world peace and welfare for the sake of humanity. Even, those Nobel Peace Prize winners that show off yearly on TVs from Norway to address us with their stereotypes speeches they did not big deals. Truthfully, wars are everywhere around the five continents. People are dying daily like flies because of epidemics, famine, gun machine fires and forbidden weapons. I hate the mendacity of politicians and leaders when they fake crocodile tears and rhetoric words for sake of winning an official mandate or public support. I am not going to speak about my good part. I rather more prefer to mention my defects! At least the ones I know that they exist in my soul. It would be like a confession to a priest on the Christian way thought I am not a Christian. So let’s start with my first imperfection … mmm well, I think that I have not enough bravery to do so ha-ha. So forget it !!

Day one
It is the 13th of an August hot day. Here in the lowlands where I am living since my childhood and till my death .. I guess!! There is no way to escape bore but by spending sometime in doing an unusual stuff. Actually writing had never been strange for me, moreover; it has been my favorite hobbit . listening to music and drinking a cup of cold milk can release an amount of rage and anxiety…. So your fingers will move smoothly on the laptop’s keyboard to type some thought that are blamed of bothering your tired head ! A lot of people write to earn living money, some people do it as a job, some people write for the sake of pleasure, and some others produce their thought in the written form to be read by people. For me writing can reach a sacred degree, like worshipping or praying. For the record, I am neither a great novelist, poet, scenarist nor a skillful journalist, haha, I’m no more than an average- educated lad living in the neighborhood. You may ask, why writing is on that degree for me …well, honestly, when I write ( of course not exams or lessons) some artistic or literary lines I feel epiphany, I feel a spiritual relax that lasts for days, for ages, for life even! A sudden happiness joys your hart, a literary “nicotine” will moderate your brain and donates you a positive charge. Peace could be extracted from that ink- paper mixture to color your mood with white and woody green. So, what else but religious prayers and rituals hold the human being to that level of salvation!! Did I make my point, no problem, it is correct for me … at least.
In my point of view, I think that only great figures have the right to write their diaries. Only those figures, populace would be interested to read their memories. Bonabert, Mohammed El-Fatih, Youri Gargauarin … such world leaders and great minds will take their readers to discover an interesting world of adventure and suspense. Their diaries would be models for men and heroic stories for children. They would be full of wisdom and insightful thinking. Yet, what in the name of God, would humble lines of a humble lad from the lowlands add to the arena of reading ….mmmm nothing I convinced myself!! If that, why then do we write!
I have no decisive answer for the moment. We do write, and we do register our thoughts on white paper because it is the only way to cure ourselves from our mental confusion! To create our small world… a world organized by laws of ours. We set what is permitted and what is forbidden. Nothing would stop the ink to form entities from our imagination. That’s why we write?...

I am so tired and asleep, actually am not good financially. It is the 29th  of August. Two left to come back to work after a 3 months holiday. In Algeria, the teachers always take the longest  vacation   hhh.   Long   vacations   do   not   fit   me,   I   rather   more   prefer   long   hours   of   work   in  different places. During work days, everything is sweet; having a break, eating lunch with a friend, some chat and surfing on the net, and finally going extremely tired to a warm bed.

I am zapping the TV, no show can attract my attention right now. My favorite list consists of the MBC channels. Most of them broadcast movies and drama. American and Turkish shows taking the lions share. After a long period of Mexican authority over the Arabian channels, the Turkish drama is dominating   nowadays and stealing   the thunder of x -famous moviesmaking companies! Bollywood also is trying to push its series to the drama arena after its successful movies. Yet, Indian series are attracting less fans because of their traditional views in producing and directing. Their heroes are so idealistic and 100% good  and pure! They show an extreme and eternal struggle between the evil and the good! Im so influenced by the   Einsteinian   Relativity   Theory   which   claim   that   no   fact   is   100%   perfect.   Consequently, perfection according to Albert Einstein is a matter of individual perception to the different phenomenon that occur around us in a changeable world. For the aforementioned reason, I see   that   presenting   a   hero   who   grew   up   among   a   family   of   life   protectors   and   who   is scarifying his life to save the earth, the town, the family . For his principles is a kind of laughing upon the minds of people. For the record, I can testimony that the Bollywood heroes are less annoying than those of Hollywood! When watching a typical heroic Hollywood movie, a person with a mind inside his  skull   would   fall   to   ground   from   laughing!   I   actually,   their   action   is  well   directed   and performed not like the Indian one, but it is not a matter of the picture, or the dialogue or the performance of the actors who are so trained and talented. The issue that bother me is the American   tendency   to   show   a   unique   American   character   with   high   ethical   and   human values! Of course When children or adolescents or even grownups ( who have no minds in their big skulls) watch Ethan Hunt trying to destroy the lethal Kommir virus to save the poor Australians in one of his impossible missions hhh , they would dream of being him,  a very powerful intelligence agents winning all the battles against the non-American (of course) devils. So silly it is! I guess.

I am not against showing the best values in the human being; however, I am against showing the other side as a fool bad miser and weak character. I am sure that watchers of the US cinema would certainly notice that Russians, Germans, Arabs, Koreans, Vietnams, Cubans… and other eternal Anti- American policy are always presenting the bad enemy. It is no more than illusion, illusion that the Americans want to promote abroad, their movies of heroism are like a simple cheap present but well covered in a colored box! It would be so stupid to believe that fictional scenarios about fictional heroes are true! American movie makers want them real, alive, and immortal. To cover this exaggeration, the movie makers are adopting new strategies to keep up their character accepted by the watchers. The strategy is creating a hero with bad or illegal past, a hero who did many crimes and religiously unacceptable actions… but, our hero is saving the poor Nigerians from slaughtering to recover his past and make some good to release his own soul. Such scenario was well performed in Bruce Willis’ “tears of the Sun”. For all those reasons, I personally tend to watch realistic movies in which there more than hero, and in which the other side is not evil, but a part who is serving his vital interests no more. For me, Bollywood movies are more just, in which their mutual Pakistani foes are notthat evil that the Hollywood would represent if it was it. I recommend to littlans to watch movies with their eyes not their hearts. They must accept only what is real and logical. To conclude, I would like to add, that it is true that cinema is made to entertain and to teach, but I see no necessity to falsify the truth for the sake of tickets’ selling!
